Music Theory 1
ID: MT1
Designed for the beginner, Music Theory 1 starts from scratch. The class covers the treble and bass clef, basic notes, rest types and notation principles. It also introduces the chromatic scale, simple intervals, and ear training concepts
Prerequisite: None
Music Theory 2
ID: MT2
The second course in the series continues to emphasize the basics of music notation in the treble and bass clef along with intervals, ear training, the major scale and basic triads.
Prerequisite: Music Theory 1
Music Theory 3
ID: MT3
Music Theory 3 concludes the course with the grand staff, the imaginary bar line concept, and several other more advanced notation concepts. Other topics include the major and minor scales, modes, more triads, ear training, and the importance of memorization of theoretical concepts.

Rhythmic Theory 1
ID: RT1
A class dedicated to the reading and writing of rhythms. The first of which covers basic rhythms up through sixteenths and includes syncopations.
Prerequisite: None
Rhythmic Theory 2
ID: RT2
The second level of Rhythmic Theory covers more complex syncopation and studies poly-rhythms and their uses.
Prerequisite: Rhythmic Theory 1
Rhythmic Vocabulary
ID: RV
Through the study of concepts such as clave, the student will learn to view rhythm from many different perspectives. This class is intended to open up the students rhythmic imagination.
These two classes teach students about 3, 4, 5, 6 and 7 part chords, how they are formed, what their called and how they relate to one another in chord progressions and songs.
Harmony
ID: Harm
Harmony is the study of notes as they sound simultaneously. Beginning with compound intervals, this class works through 7th, 9th, 11th, and 13th chords while also studying the relationship between chords as they work together in music.
Prerequisite: Music Theory 3
Chord/Scale Theory
ID: CST
This class answers the question “what scales work with what chords.” Through the study of this theory, the student will understand how chords and scales relate to one another and how to use this information in composition and performance.
Prerequisite: Harmony
