The saying goes “it takes a village to raise a child”… The same could certainly be said for any developing nonprofit organization. The Uptown Music Collective became a nonprofit in 2006 and has since that time been raised by both the community and the example of other nonprofits into a highly respected organization that has earned the trust and support of the community.

The school’s fundraising philosophy is based on the goal of paying all administrative and fundamental operational expenses with tuition and performance revenue. Directing the revenue from fundraising to support the school’s educational infrastructure, as well as its educational and scholarship programs.

This guarantees our donors that their support will only fund equipment purchases, and program operations that have a direct impact on our program participants. All of our fundraising initiatives directly support programs or financial aid, for more information on each initiative check them out below.

The Annual Campaign

2016-2017 Goal – $15,000

Each November the Uptown Music Collective launches its yearly fundraising initiative, the UMC Annual Campaign. The campaign is a direct mail initiative designed around an appeal letter and supporting materials sent out yearly to an ever growing list of supporters and potential supporters.

All funds from this years campaign will go directly to support the Free Classes and Workshops Initiative. This initiative gives all UMC Program participants access to 1 weekly class and 2 weekly workshops per semester without charge. Keeping tuition costs down, and making high quality education affordable for all students.

Raise the Region

2017 Goal – $15,000

Raise the Region is an online fundraising event that takes place yearly in March. The event is facilitated by the First Community Partnership of Pennsylvania, and raises over $1,000,000 yearly for nonprofit organizations throughout central Pennsylvania.

The Uptown Music Collective has taken part in the event every year since it’s inception.  Funds raised through this event are directed towards a program, or project within the school that is most in need at the time. For information on Raise the Region 2017 and the Uptown Music Collective’s Plans for it check back in January 2017.

Blues-A-Thon

2017 Goal – $5,000

The Uptown Music Collective’s yearly 24 Blues-A-Thon is a unique and highly educational fundraiser, that gives students, staff, local musicians, and nationally known Blues Artists the opportunity to work together to raise money for the Uptown Music Collective’s Educational Programs.

The event is modeled after the successful Relay for Life events. In the case of the Blues-A-Thon, participants agree to play for a certain number of hours during the event and seek sponsors to support them.

The Blues-A-Thon is supported by the Billtown Blues Association, who arrange for and sponsor a nationally known Blues Guest Artist who performs the opening and closing sets of the event. The guest artist also works with students throughout the event both in formal workshops, and informally as a participant in a few of the jams.
