Coronavirus (COVID-19)

 UPDATE: JULY 13TH, 2020

The Uptown Music Collective’s Administrative Staff has decided to return to teaching the schools private lessons solely online for the remaining 5 weeks of the 2020 Summer semester. This decision is based on the safety of our students, our instructors, our staff, and their families as a whole in this very uncertain time in the world.

Please read the following letter below from the UMC’s Administrative Staff:

Dear UMC Students and Parents,

After much thought, conversation, research, and debate the Uptown Music Collective’s Administrative Staff have decided to return to teaching the schools private lessons solely online for the remaining 5 weeks of the 2020 Summer semester. This decision is based on the safety of our students, our instructors, our staff, and their families as a whole in this very uncertain time in the world.

In early June, as we were planning our return to in-person lessons, the Covid-19 numbers were moving in the right direction. In preparation for the change, the staff spent the last month planning, and prepping, to ensure that the safety protocols and guidelines that we put in place worked.

However, now as cases are surging across the country, and the pandemic hits closer to home. We feel that going back to virtual lessons is the only way to mitigate the dangerous x-factors that all of our preparations cannot control.

We plan to return to in-person lessons for the start of our 2020 Fall semester. This week is currently the 11th week of our 15 week Summer Semester, which means there 5 more weeks of lessons, which will be done remotely. This current semester will end on August 15th. The week of August 17th will be the “make-up” week for this semester and the week of August 24th the Collective is closed for our Summer Break. The first day of the 2020 Fall semester is currently slated to be August 31st.

We will be closely monitoring the situation with COVID-19 and adjusting our game plan accordingly. We hope you all can respect the decision we are making and understand why we are making it. If anyone has any questions or concerns , they can feel free to email Brendan ([email protected]).

We thank you for your understanding,

The UMC Administrative Staff

Please read the following letter from the Uptown Music Collective Administrative Staff:

Dear UMC Student and Parents,
The need to mitigate the spread of COVID-19 has, and will for a time, impact all of our lives. With the health of our students, their families, our teachers and staff, foremost in our mind. We have made the difficult decision to follow Governor Wolf’s closing of all K-12 Schools for the next 2 weeks due to the COVID-19 outbreak also known as the Coronavirus.

This means there will be no lessons, classes, workshops, rehearsals or meetings, starting from today (3/13) through March 29th, for the time being. We will be monitoring the situation closely and adjusting our timeline as needed.  The Discovering Music Program, UMC Program, AMP (Adult Music Program), as well as Community Performance and Major Performance Programs are currently suspended.

The current plan is to use the pre-scheduled “make-up week” (listed on the calendar as Spring Break) set for the week of April 27th-May 1st to make up for one week of missed lessons.  Classes and workshops will be made up, if possible, that week as well.  As far as the second week missed due to closure, we are currently working out our options for remote teaching via video or streaming options.  Please bear with us in these uncharted waters as we find the best possible way to serve our student population while keeping everyone safe and healthy.

We are also looking into our options for moving the upcoming Student Showcase, currently scheduled for March 29th, to a later date. As soon as we have more information on this we will be sure to inform you as soon as possible.  All rehearsals for the Student Showcase are obviously suspended as well, due to the school closure.

We thank all of you for your understanding and hope everyone stays safe.  If anyone has any questions on this matter, please do not hesitate to contact the Administrative Staff via email.
Thank you,

The Uptown Music Collective Administrative Staff
