13 current Uptown Music Collective students were awarded scholarships for the nonprofit school of music’s 2019-2020 school year, totaling a value of $19,575.

Funding for the scholarships was made possible through the generous donations of the local community, including both individual and corporate donors. All thirteen scholarships awarded will each cover one full year at the school of music.

Alice Hileman Scholarship

The Uptown Music Collective would recognize and thank Jane Darrow, and her son Jesse Darrow for their continued stewardship of the Alice Hileman Memorial Scholarship Fund here at the Collective, as well as their service on the UMC Scholarship Committee. This was the first scholarship fund established here at the Collective. The fund was started in 2009 by in memory of Jane’s mother, Alice Hileman, and was the catalyst for the UMC Scholarship Program. We are extremely grateful to have this long-standing scholarship renewed year after year.

The recipient of this scholarship is Nadia Evans. Nadia has been a student at the Collective for almost 2 years with a primary focus on voice lessons. This scholarship will help to provide her the opportunity to advance her music education at the Collective.

Angelina’s Song Scholarship
The Uptown Music Collective would recognize and thank the Angelina’s Song Foundation who started the Angelina’s Song Scholarship last year at the Collective. The Angelina’s Song Foundation’s mission is to help create and improve music therapy programs in children’s hospitals across the nation, to offer music-related wish items to sick children and teens, all while supporting pediatric cancer research. The foundation approached the Collective last year wanting to start a scholarship fund here with the specifications it would go to a student who has been diagnosed with a critical or chronic illness, or who aspires to become a music therapist. This fund will provide 1 full scholarship for the 2019-2020 school year to a student who meets these specifications.

The recipient of this scholarship is Noah Joy. Noah has been a student at the Collective since 2012. He has focused his musical studies around the guitar. This year he has been participating in the Rock Workshop, Guitar Riffs workshop and the Student Showcases.

Blaise Alexander Family Scholarship

The Uptown Music Collective would recognize and thank the Blaise Alexander Family Dealerships for their continued stewardship of The Blaise Alexander Family Scholarship Fund. This fund was started two years ago and continued this year through The Blaise Alexander Family Dealerships once again graciously sponsoring our Fundraising Performance this past January at the CAC. This fund will provide 2 full scholarships for the 2019-2020 school year.

The first recipient of this scholarship is Molly Chapman. Molly has been a student at the Collective going on 8 years studying vocals, piano, and guitar. Molly is also a member of SPG1 as well as the Community Performance Group, Sonic Wall Party. Along with performing, Molly is also extremely active in the iOn Uptown and is a backing band leader for our Student Showcases. 


The second recipient of this scholarship is Abby Jamison. Abby has been a Collective student for over 4 years taking vocal lessons. Abby is an active participant in iOn Uptown and recently began performing in a Community Performance Group.

Brickyard Scholarship

The Uptown Music Collective would recognize and thank The Brickyard Restaurant and Ale House who, along with The Stonehouse Wood Fired Pizza & Pasteria begin The Brickyard & Stonehouse Scholarship Fund two years ago. This year, they split their scholarship in two, one for The Brickyard and one for The Stonehouse, making another new scholarship at the Collective! The scholarships which each provide 1 full scholarship for the 2019-2020 school year. We would like to thank our neighbors at The Brickyard and The Stonehouse for their continued support of the Collective and stewardship of these scholarships!

The recipient of this year’s Brickyard Scholarship is Sofia Pinsky. Sofia has been a student at the Collective for the past four years taking both guitar and vocal lessons. She is a member of SPG 1 and well as a member of the Community Performance Group, Wood & Ivory.

Stonehouse Scholarship

The Uptown Music Collective would like to recognize and thank The Stonehouse Wood Fired Pizza & Pasteria who, along with The Brickyard Restaurant and Ale House, began The Brickyard & Stonehouse Scholarship Fund two years ago. This year, they split their scholarship in two, one for The Brickyard and one for The Stonehouse, making another new scholarship at the Collective! The scholarships which each provide 1 full scholarship for the 2019-2020 school year. We would like to thank our neighbors at The Brickyard and The Stonehouse for their continued support of the Collective and stewardship of these scholarships!

The recipient of this year’s Stonehouse Scholarship is Ashlyn Bird. Ashlyn has been a Collective student for 8 years studying piano and vocals. She is a member of Special Performance Group 1 as a Keyboardist and vocalist. She has also been a member of the community performance group Sonic Wall Party for two years.

Colonel’s Community Scholarship

The Uptown Music Collective would recognize and thank KFC who began The Colonel’s Community Scholarship Fund two years ago and continued it this year. This fund will provide 1 full scholarship for the 2019-2020 school year and is based upon merit. Students do not apply for this scholarship but are chosen by the UMC staff based upon their dedication, ability, and work ethic. We would like to thank the KFC for their continued stewardship of this scholarship.

The recipient of this scholarship is Cade Palmatier. Cade has been a student at the Collective since he was 6 years old. He is one of the top guitarists in both of our performance programs. He made the trip to Memphis with the Collective’s 3rd Street Blues Band during the 2018 International Blues Challenge Youth Showcase. Cade is also heavily active in building guitar amplifiers with Mick Johns and Harding Amplification. Cade will be a senior in high school this year.

Lew Gilberti Memorial Scholarship

The Uptown Music Collective would recognize and thank the First Community Foundation Partnership of Pennsylvania for the continued stewardship of The Lew Gilberti Memorial Scholarship Fund. This fund was started in memory of local musician Lew Gilberti by his family and friends and will provide 1 full scholarship for the 2019-2020 school year.

The recipient of this scholarship is Gabreon Godin. Gabreon has been a Collective student for over 5 years. His primary focus has been his study of guitar but has recently also started to study bass. He is heavily active in UMC’s Tech Monkey and iOn Uptown programs. He is also a member of Special Performance Group 1 and a Community Performance Group.

Guitarley’s Scholarship

The Uptown Music Collective would recognize and thank Guitarley’s. Guitarley’s is the premiere custom guitar and repair shop right in Downtown Williamsport. The Guitarley’s Scholarship was started last year and is given based upon merit. Preference is given to up and coming guitar students as per the steward’s request. Students do not apply for this scholarship but are chosen by the UMC staff based upon their dedication, ability, and work ethic. The faithful steward of this scholarship fund is the owner/proprietor of Guitarley’s, as well as UMC Alumni, Mr. Sean Farley.


The recipient of this scholarship is Easton Wagner. Easton has been a guitar student here at the Collective for over two years. He has been an active participant in both our blues and rock workshops for several semesters as well as a Tech Monkey for many of our large scale performances. Easton has shown growth and a real aptitude to the guitar which makes him the perfect candidate for this scholarship.

RVT Scholarship

The Uptown Music Collective would recognize and thank River Valley Transit who began The River Valley Transit Scholarship Fund two years ago and continued it this year through sponsoring our Scholarship Fundraising Performance this past January at the CAC. This fund will provide 1 full scholarship for the 2019-2020 school year. We would like to thank the RVT crew, especially William Nichols for making this fund possible.

The recipient of this scholarship is Connor Evans. Connor has been a student at the Collective for a little over a year now, taking drum lessons and being very involved in the school. Connor has participated in many of the Collective’s workshops, including semesters of Tech Monkey and teaching drum lessons in our Student Teacher Outreach & Mentoring Program (STOMP). He is part of the Community Performance Group, Crystal Visions that performs at many community events throughout the year. This is also Connor’s first year being involved in SPG1.  Connor is hard working and continues to grow every semester. He is quickly rising in the ranks as a talented musician and drummer.

UPMC Susquehanna Scholarship

The Uptown Music Collective would recognize and thank UPMC Susquehanna for the continued stewardship of UPMC Susquehanna Scholarship Fund. This fund began last year and continued this year through UPMC Susquehanna once again graciously sponsoring our Fundraising Performance this past January at the CAC. This fund will provide 1 full scholarship for the 2019-2020 school year, as well as a contribution to the UMC Financial Aid fund.


The recipient of this scholarship is Alonzo Chapman. Aj has been a student at the Collective for over three years, starting out as a Summer Music Camp participant before becoming a full-time guitar student. Aj is heavily involved with the iOn Uptown Program as well as participation in our Student Showcases. AJ has continued to grow every semester he studies here at the Collective and is quickly rising in the ranks as a competent and talented musician.

The Miller Family Scholarship

The Uptown Music Collective would recognize and thank a new addition to our scholarship line up this year, The Miller Family Scholarship in honor of Amanda Miller. This scholarship, started by Lee & Angela Miller and their daughter & UMC Alum, Amanda Miller, was started this year as a merit-based scholarship to be awarded to a current UMC female vocalist who demonstrates real enthusiasm and promise on stage as a singer and stage performer. Amanda was a vocal student and performer at the Collective a number of years ago, and is currently on tour as a backup singer for the legendary Rod Stewart!

The recipient of this scholarship is Cecilia Lutz. Cece has been a student at the Collective for over 7 years focusing primarily on vocals but has also studied guitar and piano. She is an active participant both in our performance programs and is currently one of the top vocalists in Special Performance Group 1. Cece spent the summer studying at Berklee College of Music in Boston.

The UMC Staff Scholarship

The Uptown Music Collective would recognize UMC Student Mackenzie Powell for receiving the 2019-20 UMC Staff Scholarship. This scholarship is funded by the money raised at our Scholarship Fundraising Performance this past January at the CAC. This fund will provide 1 full scholarship for the 2019-2020 school year and is based upon merit. Students do not apply for this scholarship but are chosen by the UMC staff based upon their dedication, ability, and work ethic.


Kenni has been a student here at the Collective for over five years focusing primarily on vocals but has also taken keyboard and guitar lessons during her time here. She is a leader in our Tech Monkey & iOn Uptown programs, helping to instruct the younger students, as well as a member of our Community Performance Program and our Special Performance Program having performed on the CAC, CTL, and Millbrook stages for the past three years.
